The Rangiora Hockey Club is looking forward to the 2019 competition and the opportunity to develop its senior teams further after good results in the previous year's competitions.
After winning the Division 2 Men's competition in 2018 the Rangiora Men are bringing in a Div 1 team for the coming season so are looking to recruit some more talented young players to help this team establish itself in the higher grade, and to build numbers to ensure we can keep teams in both Div 2 and Div 3 grades.
At the same time the Div 1 Champion "Rangiora Evergreens" are losing a number of senior players so face the challenge of rebuilding quickly to maintain their position in the grade. This means opportunities for players to step up a grade or two this season for Div 1, Div 2 and Div 3 teams.
The Rangiora Hockey Club's Men's and Women's Platinum (Youth) teams remain competitive and successful at developing some quality players and coaches. After winning their grade in 2018 many of the players from the 2nd Platinum women's team have a chance to step up to higher grade teams this year, while opportunities abound in all Platinum teams for new players coming into the club or coming up from lower age grades.

coaches & managers neededThe Rangiora Hockey Club is always on the look out for more dedicated coaches and managers for our senior teams - who play an important role in the development and success of these teams.
Our current senior women's coach has indicated 2019 will be his last year in the role, so we are now looking for a new coach to assist this year then take over the senior role after that. If you are interested in coaching any of our senior teams, or know someone who might be suitably experienced and interested, please get in touch with the Rangiora Hockey Club secretary as soon as possible. |
senior team trialsWe will be holding trials for our men's and women's Div 1 and 2 senior teams as part of the pre-season training sessions which will run through February. ANY PLAYER wishing to pursue a spot in any of these teams should attend these training sessions - Tuesday nights 7-8pm at the MainPower Hockey Turf. We also intend to hold trials for men's and women's Platinum (Youth Under 18) teams, in late February/early March (date TBC). Generally the club's Div 3 and Mid Week men's and women's teams do not have trials but anyone intending to play in these teams is more the welcome to attend other pre-season training sessions once they start in March. Start dates TBC. |
SENIOR WOMENThe Rangiora Hockey Club will again be looking to enter 4 highly competitive senior women's teams in 2019, continuing to develop the depth in the club...
Div 1 Rangiora Evergreens Following a rebuilding year in 2017 this team took a while to get the hang of a new playing structure but steadily improved throughout the season to regain the championship they won in 2016. Div 2 Women Traditionally a strong development team for players who push on for higher honours in the Evergreens or elsewhere, the Div 2 team get the benefit of top level coaching and are a very competitive team every year. Div 3 Gold Women Changes to the age structure of Div 3 saw RHC struggle to field a Div 3 team in 2018 (as did all clubs), but once they got their numbers sorted this team grew from strength to strength. In 2019 this team will feature a wider range of ages and provides an enjoyable and supportive entry for anyone looking to give hockey a go. Rangiora-Hurunui Mid-Week Women This team was formed in 2018, based around a core of enthusiastic hockey players from the Hurunui district, together with a handful of Rangiora players. With unknown talent the team entered Div 2 of the Mid-Week competition and subsequently defeated every other team in the grade - the only game they lost all season was the season-ending promotion/relegation match when they had several players absent. Waimakariri Masters Women Many of the older women from our senior teams get together with others from Hinemoa-Kaiapoi and a variety of clubs to form the Waimak Women's Summer Masters teams (over 30 years). |
SENIOR MENThe Rangiora Hockey Club expects to once again field 3 Senior Men's teams in 2019 though if we can get sufficient players we will add a 4th team...
Rangiora Div 1 Men This will be the club's newest venture after the Division 2 men won that competition in 2018. Many of the players from that successful campaign are stepping up to Div 1 but we are looking for more players to ensure the team competes well at the higher level. Rangiora Outsiders. Our Div 2 team will be in regrow mode in 2019 with many of the former players moving up to Div 1 and a group of Div 3 and youth players stepping up a grade or two. However the talent is there to make this a strong team once again. Rangiora Oddfellows. In 2018 this team lost their label as cellar-dwellers of men's hockey with some strong performances to finish mid-table in the Division 3 competition. This team is generally a mix of experienced older players and younger ones coming up from youth grades. It is also a great team for players returning or new to the game. Rangiora Allsorts. This new team entered the Mid-Week Men's Div 2 competition with a mix of talent - including a number of players returning to the game after several years away. The Allsorts finished mid-table in 2018 but with a bit more game time together should be a stronger force in 2019. Rangiora Masters Men Many of the Senior Men from the above three teams also form the backbone of the Goon Squad Summer Masters team (over 35 years). |
Platinum (YOUTH u18)The Rangiora Hockey Club will once again look to field 2 Platinum Men's and Women's teams for the 2019 season. Platinum men usually play on a Saturday while the women play on Sunday...
Platinum Men One Each year this team faces top flight competition from CHCH clubs and schools, helping it develop talented players who eventually progress up into the senior ranks with distinction. Platinum Men Two The younger Platinum Men's team provides an opportunity for players of all abilities and experience to continue to play hockey through their teenage years and form lasting friendships. Platinum Women One After just missing out on the playoffs in 2018 this team will be looking for improvement in 2019, and with some talented players coming up from the second team and Kwik Sticks grade the opportunities will be there. Platinum Women Two Champions of their grade in 2018, this team provides a great environment for players coming out of the Kwik Sticks grade to experience a faster and harder hitting style of hockey. We always ensure this team provides a supportive and fun environment for players to encourage them to continue with the sport for life. |

2019 Senior Player Registration Fees
|
Subs for the 2019 season will be confirmed at the AGM in March.
We are unable to confirm subs until we get confirmation from Canterbury Hockey on its registration fee structure for the season, which has been delayed. As an approximate guide here are the proposed subs for 2019: Grade Sub Open Senior (Div 1) $420 Div 2-3 $410 Mid Week Open $325* Open Grade (U18) $370 Div 3 Platinum (Youth) $300 Kwik Sticks 11 a side $200 ALL 6 a side $145 Skills $TBC Friends of the RHC $50 Uniform Bond $25 (to go towards team photo) These fees include most of the costs associated with playing and training (eg: affiliation to CHA and NZ Hockey, turf fees and training fees). Also included are some administration costs (eg: accounting fees and equipment replacement levies) along with the end of season functions for both Junior and Senior teams so there will be no ticket sales. Mid Week open team subs do not include training fees. but do include end of season function. Please note: Players with outstanding subs from last season will not be allowed to play for Rangiora until a payment plan is agreed and will not be able to transfer to another club until paid in full. |
Where do your subs go?
There is no question hockey is an expensive sport, with relatively high registration fees when compared to some other sports. A large part of this is due to the sport's use of artificial turfs, which, unlike most grass-based and traditional sports, users have to pay a hire fee for. It is important to understand the majority of fees imposed on players come from NZ and Canterbury Hockey, and the local club's proportion of your subs is very low. The graph below gives an indication of where your subs go... |
